About Blueflowers

Web design with a personal approach

Blueflowers is Mike and Mariska, a husband-and-wife web design team based in Marlborough, between Nelson and Blenheim.

We started Blueflowers in 2002 with a simple idea: provide good web design, straightforward advice and personal service without making the process unnecessarily complicated.

More than 20 years later, that's still how we work.

We've designed and supported websites for businesses, organisations, accommodation providers, trades, community groups and many others throughout Nelson, Marlborough and across New Zealand.

And we're still enjoying it.

Two different backgrounds, one business

Mariska comes from a design background and Mike from IT, giving Blueflowers a combination of creative and technical skills that has served us well as websites and the technology behind them have evolved.

But good web design isn't only about design or technology.

It's also about understanding the business behind the website — what it does, who its customers are and what the website actually needs to achieve.

That's why we prefer working directly with our clients. You'll deal with the people doing the work, and we'll explain things in straightforward language rather than expecting you to become a web expert.

We've been doing this since 2002

The web looked rather different when Blueflowers started.

Technology has changed enormously since then, along with the way people search, browse websites, use mobile phones, communicate with businesses and buy things online.

We've changed with it.

What hasn't changed is our approach: understand what the client needs, recommend a sensible solution, do the job properly and be available when we're needed again.

Some of the businesses we worked with in our early years are still Blueflowers clients today.

We're particularly proud of that.

We don't measure a successful project simply by getting a website live. We'd much rather still be hearing from you years later.

Based in Marlborough, working throughout Nelson and beyond.

We're based in Rai Valley, between Nelson and Blenheim, and work with businesses throughout Marlborough, Nelson and Tasman as well as clients elsewhere in New Zealand.

Most website projects can be handled easily by phone, email and online meetings, so distance is rarely an obstacle.

And when we're not sitting in front of computers, you'll generally find us somewhere outdoors — walking, cycling, kayaking, exploring the hills or being taken for a walk by Riko.

Long-term relationships matter to us

A new website may be the beginning of our involvement with a business rather than the end.

Over time we might help with hosting and email, make website changes, add new services or projects, improve SEO, solve technical problems or eventually rebuild the website when it's ready for another generation.

That continuity means our clients know who to contact — and we already understand their website and often their business too.

Small enough to keep things personal

Blueflowers isn't a large agency, and we don't try to behave like one.

When you email or phone us, you're dealing directly with Mike or Mariska. There are no account managers between you and the people actually working on your website.

Being small also means we can be flexible.

Some clients want to be closely involved and update their own websites. Others would rather leave almost everything to us. We're happy working either way — or anywhere in between.

We aim to provide practical solutions and good value rather than sell clients things they don't need.

What our clients say

Some of our client relationships span many years, so rather than tell you we're easy to work with, we'll let a few of them tell you themselves.

Mariska and Mike at Blueflowers are the best in the business. They have been so helpful and made a positive difference to our business over the past 21 years and counting! Their expertise and knowledge is first rate and their customer service is also excellent as they always answer the many questions I have. They are the best when it comes to website design and hosting, I can't recommend them enough!

Mariska & Mike from Blueflowers are amazing to deal with! They understand our business and have created a website that is genuinely us – welcoming, clear and beautifully put together. Our bikers often comment on how simple our website is easy to navigate. Communication is always easy and updates are quick. Couldn’t speak more highly of them.

Working with Mike and Mariska over many years, and recently with a website update, has been a pleasure. They are so patient with my lack of IT expertise, and they are so efficient and easy to work with. There is no stress, just assurance everything is being done in expert and experienced hands. I couldn't recommend them highly enough for any of your web needs.

Dave and I worked with Blueflowers Web Design to build our new website, having no experience in this field at all, we were nervous! But we had a great experience. We were listened to, our ideas were taken on board and Mike really helped with brand awareness. Our new website is very easy for our customers to use on both phones and computers. We have no hesitation in recommending Mike and Mariska.
